NEW YORK, N.Y. — Election night in Queens, New York City’s largest borough by area, brought few surprises, with every incumbent on the ballot for Congress and the state Legislature leading or already declared the winner as of Wednesday morning, unofficial results show.
In the House races, Rep. Gregory Meeks took about 80% of the vote in the 5th District against George Marsh. Rep. Grace Meng won the 6th District with 68.5% over Joseph Chou, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the 14th with 78.2% against Diamant Hysenaj.
Rep. Tom Suozzi led Republican Michael J. Lipetri Jr. in the 3rd District with 53.8% and 95% of precincts reported. In the open 7th District, where Rep. Nydia Velazquez is stepping down, Assemblymember Claire Valdez won with 83% of the vote.
On the state Senate side, Democrat Aber Kawas led the race for the vacant 12th District seat with 74.3% over Han-Khon To. Assemblymember Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, who beat state Sen. Jessica Ramos in the primary, held 78.9% in the 13th District. State Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky led her 11th District race with 65.5%.
The tightest Queens contest came in the 23rd Assembly District, where Democrat Pesach Osina had 51.9% to Republican Thomas P. Sullivan’s 47.9% with 97% of precincts in. The seat is open because Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato is leaving. In the open 30th Assembly District, Democrat Patrick Martinez led with 70.8%.
Statewide, Gov. Kathy Hochul won another term with more than 60% of the vote, with Adrienne Adams, the Queens Democrat who led the City Council as speaker, as her running mate. Attorney General Letitia James and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli were also reelected.
Adams becomes only the second lieutenant governor to come from Queens. Gonzalez-Rojas and Kawas both won Democratic Senate primaries in June. All of the results stay unofficial until the city Board of Elections certifies them.
