New York City – W New York—Union Square has reopened its doors after a significant $100 million renovation, positioning itself as the luxurious flagship of the W Hotels brand. Originally established in 2001, this upscale hotel has transformed from a serene escape to a modern hub celebrating its roots in one of Manhattan’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

The remodel, overseen by the hotel’s general manager, Christina Poon, incorporates the site’s historic Beaux-Arts architecture while seamlessly integrating modern design elements. The property now boasts 265 guest rooms and suites, highlighted by a spacious Penthouse Suite. Each room features distinct light fixtures inspired by the city’s unique Manhattanhenge phenomenon and design components that pay homage to Union Square Park.

Located in a cultural hotspot, the hotel showcases its community connection through its redesigned spaces, crafted by the renowned Rockwell Group. The renovation aims to reflect the local ambiance while providing guests with intimate connections to the surrounding area.

As part of its new offerings, the hotel is set to introduce Seahorse, a seafood-focused restaurant scheduled to open on September 24, 2025. Headed by chef John Villa, the restaurant will emphasize fresh seafood and seasonal produce sourced from the nearby Union Square Greenmarket, further enhancing the hotel’s ties to local cuisine.

The hotel’s Living Room transforms its ambiance from a coffee spot during daylight hours into an inviting cocktail lounge in the evening, blending elements of both historic charm and contemporary style. Moreover, the addition of a rooftop bar, which will be the only one in Union Square, offers panoramic views of the illustrious Manhattan skyline, adding to the hotel’s appeal.

To cater to today’s health-conscious travelers, the newly revitalized hotel includes a state-of-the-art gym complemented by a wellness space featuring a dedicated Peloton studio. This shift towards wellness aligns with W Hotels’ broader brand evolution, focusing on luxury lifestyle hospitality which highlights local connections and experiences.

The hotel aims to craft “moments that feel energetic and iconic,” touting a transformed guest experience that balances relaxation with the vibrancy of its dynamic environment. Prices for rooms start at $650 per night, reflecting both the premier location and upgraded offerings.

This renovation not only illustrates the brand’s commitment to reinvention but also marks a pivotal shift in its identity, moving away from a nightlife-centric reputation towards a focus on wellness and a more sophisticated lifestyle hospitality experience. The W New York—Union Square now stands as a beacon of modern elegance, catering to both leisure and business travelers seeking an engaging stay in the heart of downtown Manhattan.
