The newly unveiled street name, Victor Scalici Way, is situated in front of Denino’s Tavern & Pizzeria, a well-known local establishment. The ceremony was hosted by the Port Richmond North Shore Alliance and aimed to recognize Scalici’s decades of service and commitment to the community.

Councilmember Kamillah Hanks sponsored the co-naming initiative, reflecting the community’s efforts to commemorate individuals who have positively impacted the area. Thomas Pagliuca, a representative from Hanks’ office, delivered a formal dedication celebrating Scalici’s values of service, integrity, and love for his neighborhood.

Throughout his life, he was dedicated to both his family and his work, holding positions such as an operating engineer and being a long-time member of the Union of Operating Engineers Local 15. His career included working on significant projects like the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and the Staten Island Expressway.

Scalici owned Victor Scalici Florist and Greenhouse, serving the Port Richmond community for many years. He was married to his wife, Aida, for over 60 years, and together they raised four children. In addition to his business contributions, Scalici was known for his hobbies, which included trap shooting, enjoying country music, watching classic cowboy movies, and gardening.

His active involvement in various community organizations, such as the Staten Island Sportsmen’s Club and Knights of Columbus, exemplified his commitment to giving back to the area. As a dedicated parishioner of St. Roch’s R.C. Church, Scalici was well-regarded for his warmth and dedication to his fellow residents.

Victor Scalici passed away on March 29, 2023, at the age of 88. His death marked the end of a life devoted to his family, work, and community. The street co-naming ceremony served as a fitting tribute to a man who left an indelible mark on Port Richmond.
