Lake Tahoe

CalTrans has announced multiple lane closures and construction projects that will affect motorists in the Lake Tahoe region next week. The work includes a significant $31.7 million pavement rehabilitation project along State Route 28 and utility work affecting various locations in and around Tahoe City.

Pavement Rehabilitation on State Route 28

The ongoing pavement rehabilitation project on State Route 28 (SR 28) in Tahoe City will commence on Sunday, August 24, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., continuing through Thursday, August 28. The project, managed by Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka, will take place between Commons Beach Road and Grove Street, impacting westbound traffic.

Motorists can expect bi-directional traffic implementation during this period. Street parking within the construction zone will be prohibited; however, access to cross streets and driveways will remain open for residents and local businesses.

Additionally, on Friday, August 29, construction work will extend from 7 a.m. until noon.

Utility Work in the Area

Utility work is also set to take place from Monday, August 25 to Tuesday, August 26, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.. This work will occur along a section of SR 28, specifically between Star Harbor Court and Lake Forest Road (west).

Moreover, the construction activities will feature pile driving over the weekend of August 23-24, which will create noise and vibrations in the surrounding area.

Fanny Bridge Closure

The Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City remains closed to all traffic until Saturday, November 15. Traffic detours will be implemented using Lake Boulevard for access to State Route 89 (SR 89) and SR 28 during the closure. Despite the bridge’s closure, West Lake Boulevard will remain accessible for business and transit customers. The pedestrian and bicycle path across the Truckee River Dam will continue to be open throughout this period.

Additional Utility Work

Broadband utility work on SR 28 is planned from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., stretching from the junction of State Route 267 in Kings Beach to the Nevada state line. Overnight utility work will also be performed between 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 and 7 a.m. on Monday, August 25, between Park Lane and Harbor Avenue in Brockway.

In Placer County, additional utility work on SR 89 is scheduled from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This work will take place between South Street and Fern Street in the Homewood area.

Updates and Changes

Motorists should be aware that the construction and utility work schedules may change due to weather conditions, equipment availability, or unforeseen circumstances. It is advisable for travelers in the Lake Tahoe region to plan ahead and consider potential delays when navigating through these areas.
