The fire, which broke out at noon, was confirmed to be deliberately set. Emergency services swiftly responded, preventing injuries among residents who escaped with the help of smoke detectors. The building suffered extensive damage, and an investigation is ongoing, probing Cronin’s motive amidst recent noise complaints against him. The local community is expected to support those displaced by the incident.

Southeast, New York – A fire that erupted in a three-story apartment building on Wednesday, June 11, has led to the displacement of ten residents and the arrest of a tenant who has been charged with arson. The fire broke out around 12:30 PM at the building located at 8 Old Route 6, and it was confirmed that the incident was intentionally caused by 43-year-old Brian Cronin, a tenant of the building.

Cronin confessed to setting the fire in his own apartment and was subsequently arrested and charged with arson in the second degree, a Class B felony. Following his arrest, he was remanded to Putnam County Jail, with bail set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.

Emergency responders acted swiftly upon arrival at the scene, where they found the building engulfed in flames. The Brewster Fire Department led the response efforts and called for assistance from the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department shortly thereafter at 1:15 PM. Multiple fire departments, including the Lake Carmel Fire Department, and emergency services collaborated in the firefighting efforts.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, and all ten residents were able to escape safely. One resident indicated that she was alerted to the fire thanks to her smoke detector, which enabled her to evacuate her apartment without harm. Eyewitness accounts noted the alarming state of the fire and detailed the significant damage inflicted upon the structure.

The fire has left behind charred ruins, which are still visible the following day on a busy street across from a reservoir. An investigation into the circumstances leading to the fire is currently ongoing, as conducted by the New York State Police.

Prior to this incident, Cronin had reportedly not been a problematic tenant. However, he had begun to receive noise complaints from other residents recently, raising concerns among his neighbors. The exact motive behind the arson remains unclear as the investigation continues.

This fire incident highlights the dangers associated with residential living and the importance of fire safety protocols. The impact on the displaced residents is significant, as they face the challenge of finding alternative housing while they recover from this unexpected disaster.

The community has been left reeling from the incident, and support efforts for the displaced residents are anticipated as local agencies are expected to step in to provide assistance and resources.
