Hicksville, New York – Early Morning Fire Engulfs Multiple Businesses, One Firefighter Injured

A four-alarm fire broke out shortly after midnight at a two-story commercial building on Marie Street in Hicksville, New York, resulting in significant damage to several businesses. The blaze severely impacted popular local establishments, including Halal Munchies restaurant, House of Donuts, a Pakistani boutique, and Long Island Abundant Church. Thankfully, all individuals inside the building were able to escape safely; however, one firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Approximately 200 firefighters from Hicksville and six neighboring fire departments were engaged in battling the flames. The fire is believed to have originated in the basement of Halal Munchies, which had only recently opened two weeks prior to the incident. Firefighters were alerted to the emergency around 12:15 a.m. and managed to bring the fire under control within two and a half hours after their arrival.

The Hicksville fire chief indicated that the presence of fire walls in the building was crucial in preventing the complete destruction of the row of businesses. An active natural gas leak was reported as a result of the fire; however, it is not considered to have been the cause of the blaze. The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, assisted by the Arson Bomb Squad, is currently conducting an investigation into the fire’s cause.

The House of Donuts, a family-owned business that has been operational since the 1970s, suffered significant damages and has been forced to close temporarily. The shop’s owner expressed deep sadness over the loss, highlighting the establishment’s long-standing connection to the community and its loyal customer base.

Building landlord Markela Melios noted that the structure has been in her family for 40 years and expressed gratitude that no one was hurt during the fire. In response to the emergency situation, National Grid and PSEG Long Island were called to the scene to shut down gas services and restore power to the affected area.

As investigators work to determine the fire’s cause and establish the extent of the damage, the community in Hicksville is coming to terms with the loss of cherished local businesses that not only serve as commercial spaces but also as vital gathering places for residents.
