NEW YORK – Delta Air Lines will launch its first-ever daily nonstop service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Porto, Portugal (OPO) starting May 21, 2026. This new route will operate every day until late October 2026, enabling passengers easier access to one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.

The daily service will utilize Boeing 767-300 aircraft, which are equipped with four cabin classes: Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort, and Main. As the only airline providing nonstop flights from JFK to Porto, Delta Air Lines offers a new travel option, while other carriers like United Airlines and TAP Air Portugal operate flights from nearby Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is celebrated for its colorful waterfront, historic architecture, and rich culinary scene, particularly known for its port wine. The introduction of this service is expected to bolster tourism in Porto while simultaneously enhancing global connectivity to the region.

Delta Air Lines is not only launching this connection but is also expanding its European routes with seven new services planned for the summer of 2026. These routes include flights from JFK to Sardinia and Malta, and from Boston to Madrid and Nice, along with Seattle to Barcelona and Rome.

According to Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, this expansion enhances customer options and reinforces JFK’s position as a major global gateway. Delta already provides daily year-round flights from JFK to Lisbon and seasonal service from Boston to Lisbon, establishing a strong presence in Portugal.

The Boeing 767-300 aircraft serving the Porto route will boast 26 lie-flat seats in Delta One, 18 premium economy seats in Delta Premium Select, plus Comfort Plus seats offering extra legroom and standard Main Cabin seating. Delta operates over 200 peak-day departures from JFK to more than 100 destinations, showcasing its extensive network.

Notably, air travel to Portugal has surged in recent years, with a reported 76% increase in flights from the U.S. to Porto Airport when compared to 2023 figures. This highlights a growing interest in the Portuguese travel market, particularly for destinations like Porto, which is recognized as a culinary capital due to its diverse array of dining options, including fresh seafood and local specialties.

The addition of Porto as a direct destination aligns with Delta’s ongoing commitment to enhancing trans-Atlantic travel experiences. By providing this new daily nonstop service, Delta aims to contribute to the local tourism industry while catering to the increasing demand for travel to Portugal.
