News Summary

New York City has launched the India Business Expo, aiming to strengthen connections with the Indian travel market. The event features fourteen professionals from India’s travel industry interfacing with over thirty businesses in NYC. The expo highlights unique tourism experiences, including private tours of cultural attractions, Broadway performances, and specialized meetings. With an increasing number of Indian visitors, this initiative positions New York as a key destination for Indian travelers, focusing on creating long-term partnerships and enhancing cultural understanding within the tourism sector.

New York City has embarked on a significant initiative to strengthen its ties with the Indian travel market by launching its inaugural India Business Expo on July 10, 2025. This three-day event was designed to enhance business development and foster relationships within the Indian tourism sector.

Fourteen leading professionals from India’s travel industry participated in the expo, engaging directly with more than 30 businesses from across New York City’s five boroughs. The participating companies included key players in hospitality, cultural institutions, and major tourist attractions, offering an array of services and experiences targeted towards Indian travelers.

Highlights of the expo included opportunities for attendees to experience some of New York City’s most iconic attractions, along with emerging tourism experiences that reflect the city’s rich cultural diversity. Among the offerings were luxury hotel stays, Broadway performances, and unique interactions with local culture. The expo’s itinerary featured private meetings, a Broadway Night including behind-the-scenes sessions with cast members from popular shows, and a Five Borough Marketplace buyers’ meet that facilitated further networking and potential partnerships.

The event also included specialized tours focusing on some of the city’s top cultural and lifestyle attractions. Participants enjoyed memorable experiences, such as a private screening of “Encounters in the Milky Way” at the American Museum of Natural History, and a “Wild Encounter” at the Bronx Zoo, where they had the chance to meet exotic animals like a sloth and an armadillo.

New York City is recognized as a major entry point for international visitors, equipped with the busiest airport system globally. This strategic positioning contributed to the city’s tourism sector attracting 64.5 million visitors in 2024, which was nearly 97% of pre-pandemic levels. The significant increase in visitors from India was particularly notable, with 419,000 Indian travelers recorded in 2024—a remarkable 24.7% increase compared to 336,000 in 2023. This growth not only surpasses pre-pandemic levels but also reinforces New York City’s reputation as a leading destination for travelers from India.

Noteworthy participants in the expo included prominent organizations such as the American Museum of Natural History, Disney on Broadway, and the Empire State Building, all of which showcased their offerings to Indian travel professionals. This event symbolizes a significant step toward establishing and strengthening the relationship between New York City and the Indian travel market.

India is recognized as one of the world’s largest outbound travel markets, and events like the India Business Expo are essential in showcasing the diverse offerings of New York City. The success of this inaugural expo is expected to set a precedent for future engagements and collaborations with India’s travel industry.

Through this expo, New York City aims to build long-term partnerships, enrich cultural understanding, and align with India’s demand for high-value, curated experiences in tourism. The city acknowledges the potential benefits of ongoing collaboration with India’s travel sector, reinforcing its commitment to mutual growth and accessibility.
