Rochester, New York has introduced the Greater ROC Relocate program to encourage remote workers to move to the area, offering incentives up to $9,000 for home-buying expenses. The initiative aims to enhance resident retention and strengthen the local economy, having already attracted over 4,000 applications since 2019. With a vibrant community, rich cultural offerings, and various outdoor activities, Rochester presents a compelling choice for those seeking a new home.

Rochester, New York has launched a revamped initiative, the Greater ROC Relocate program, aimed at enticing remote workers to settle in the Greater Rochester area. Formerly known as ROC Remote, this program now offers more comprehensive support to potential residents seeking to relocate. A key feature of the program is a financial incentive of up to $9,000 designated for home-buying expenses.

The primary goal of the Greater ROC Relocate program is to foster long-term retention of new residents across the nine-county region. Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old, authorized to work in the U.S., and currently reside more than 300 miles from downtown Rochester, or in a different state entirely. Those who successfully receive the grant have a window of six months to complete their relocation.

Since its inception in 2019, the program has attracted significant interest, with over 4,000 applications submitted from individuals across all 50 states. To date, 32 applicants have successfully relocated to Rochester, contributing a total of 71 jobs to the local economy.

Rochester is celebrated for its neighborly atmosphere and vibrant community life. It hosts over 140 annual festivals and boasts the largest variety of lilacs in the world. The city has a flourishing culinary scene, featuring well-known restaurants such as Patron Saint, Good Luck, and Redd. For outdoor enthusiasts, Rochester offers more than 12,000 acres of parkland and scenic trails suitable for various recreational activities.

Popular outdoor destinations include Highland Park and the stunning landscapes of the nearby Finger Lakes region, famous for its vineyards. The city’s proximity to natural wonders, such as the Adirondacks and Niagara Falls, enhances its attractiveness for those pursuing active and adventurous lifestyles.

Rochester is also known for its rich cultural offerings, including the popular Strong National Museum of Play and the George Eastman Museum. The cost of living is appealing as well, with the average rent in Rochester around $1,300 per month, considerably less than the national average of $1,713 per month.

The Greater ROC Relocate program recognizes the growing trend of remote work, with Rochester being identified as the fifth-best city in the U.S. for remote work opportunities. The initiative is designed not only to attract newcomers but also to create a supportive community through networking opportunities and integration plans for residents.

Residents have praised the sense of intimacy and community unique to Rochester, often noting it in contrast with larger cities. This community spirit, combined with the city’s amenities and lifestyle options, positions Rochester as an increasingly appealing option for individuals looking to relocate.
