This acquisition aims to enhance Acuity’s lighting portfolio, integrating M3’s solutions specifically targeting K-12 public schools and municipal parks. Acuity’s president expressed excitement regarding M3’s energy-efficient offerings, which will strengthen Acuity’s presence in the sports lighting market. The founders of M3 will remain involved, continuing to innovate in lighting technology for public facilities.

Syracuse, NY – Acuity Inc., the largest lighting company in North America, has acquired M3 Innovation, a burgeoning sports lighting firm founded in 2019. The acquisition is poised to enhance Acuity’s already extensive lighting portfolio, although details regarding the specific terms of the deal have not been made public. M3 Innovation, celebrated for its innovative LED lighting solutions, primarily targets K-12 public schools and municipal parks.

M3 Innovation’s products, which focus on sports lighting for various ball fields including football, baseball, softball, and cricket, will now be integrated into Acuity Brands Lighting’s offerings. This move aligns with Acuity’s goal of providing improved lighting solutions that lower installation and operational costs for facility owners while enhancing their overall performance.

Sach Sankpal, president of Acuity Brands Lighting, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, underscoring M3 Innovation’s reputation for transforming sports lighting through energy-efficient solutions. The acquisition will further allow Acuity to expand its reach in the sports facility lighting segment.

Joe Casper and Chris Nolan, co-founders of M3 Innovation, will continue their roles in the company post-acquisition, remaining based in Syracuse. M3 operates from the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems and currently employs four individuals. Their innovative products have already found success in significant projects, notably lighting up 86 ball fields for Hillsborough County Public Schools in Florida and the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Acuity Inc. is a significant player in the global lighting market, generating annual sales of approximately $3.8 billion and employing over 12,000 individuals across North America, Europe, and Asia. This acquisition is part of Acuity’s broader strategy to enhance its product offerings and strengthen its presence in various markets, including sports lighting, where demand is increasingly driven by a focus on energy efficiency and cost-effective solutions.

M3 Innovation’s founders bring valuable experience to Acuity, as both Casper and Nolan are known for their commitment to creating advanced lighting solutions tailored to the needs of public facilities. Before launching M3 Innovation, Joe Casper founded Ephesus Lighting in 2010, which focused on professional sports lighting and was sold to Eaton Corp. in 2015. This background positions M3 Innovation as an essential asset for Acuity in achieving its growth objectives in the competitive lighting industry.

The union of Acuity Inc. and M3 Innovation signifies a strategic effort to embrace innovation in lighting technology, particularly in sports venues. As communities increasingly invest in upgraded facilities, Acuity’s acquisition is likely to have a profound impact on sports lighting standards, making competitive and recreational sports more accessible for schools and parks alike.

Overall, the acquisition of M3 Innovation by Acuity not only streamlines product offerings but also enhances the pathway for both companies to collaborate in setting new benchmarks in sports lighting efficiency and effectiveness.
