Christopher Community, Inc. (CCI) has appointed Jeffrey Eysaman as its new president and CEO. This change comes amidst housing development plans in Syracuse, including the Lafayette Hills Estates & Country Club project, aimed at addressing the growing housing needs in the area. Eysaman’s leadership is timely as Onondaga County revitalizes its trash-to-energy plant, further contributing to local infrastructure and economic growth.
Jeffrey Eysaman has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Christopher Community, Inc. (CCI), effective April 23, 2023. Eysaman succeeds Justin Rudgick, who departed earlier this year to pursue other opportunities. CCI is a nonprofit organization based in Syracuse that focuses on creating quality housing solutions to benefit the community.
As housing needs continue to evolve in the Syracuse area, the announcement of Eysaman’s leadership comes at a critical time. Onondaga County is also set to restart its trash-to-energy plant in Jamesville after overcoming maintenance challenges. This facility plays a vital role by generating enough electricity to supply power to 30,000 homes annually while significantly reducing landfill material by 90%, making it an important resource for the community and local economy.
A California developer has plans to transform the former Lafayette Hills country club site into a substantial residential community named Lafayette Hills Estates & Country Club. This new development is set to include nearly 300 homes, accompanied by a 9-hole golf course, man-made lakes, and extensive walking and biking trails.
The homes in the Lafayette Hills community will be marketed at prices ranging from $350,000 to over $1 million, with a particular emphasis on attracting workers drawn to the area by the new Micron Technology semiconductor plant. A unique “rent to own” option will be available for Micron employees, allowing their rent payments to count towards eventual home purchases, making home ownership more accessible for those contributing to the growing tech industry.
The site of the former country club was purchased for $3 million two years ago, after being closed since 2013. The development will unfold in three phases. The initial phases will consist of constructing 263 homes, while the final phase will incorporate the golf course and additional estate homes. Construction is expected to begin later this year, and a model home tour is planned for spring 2023.
Two man-made lakes will be part of the community, providing recreational opportunities for residents, including canoeing and paddle boating activities. A new clubhouse is set to replace the old structure, which was demolished due to vandalism, and will include a public restaurant and event space. These amenities aim to foster a sense of community and enhance the living experience for future residents.
To adequately support the new housing development, financial assistance from the city is being pursued to extend essential sewer lines to the development area. Onondaga Town Supervisor John Mahar has emphasized the importance of extending sewer services as a key factor for the success of this residential project.
In addition, the development coincides with Micron Technology’s plans to establish a semiconductor fabrication plant in Clay. This major investment is anticipated to create approximately 9,000 jobs, further boosting the local economy and attracting additional businesses to the area. With the combination of new housing options and a robust job market, the Syracuse region is gearing up for substantial growth in the coming years.
The arrival of Eysaman at Christopher Community, Inc. and the development of Lafayette Hills Estates & Country Club represent a pivotal moment for Syracuse, as the community looks to meet the housing demand driven by economic growth and evolving demographics.
