The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m., with the assailant identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. The deceased NYPD officer, Didarul Islam, was a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh and a father of two young boys, with a third child on the way.
