A glimpse of the culinary diversity from the new Michelin candidate restaurants in NYC.
The Michelin Guide has announced the addition of 14 new restaurants in New York City that are potential candidates for the upcoming Michelin awards. These establishments, located in Brooklyn and Manhattan, span diverse cuisines including Caribbean, Thai, Yemeni, and French, enriching the city’s vibrant dining scene. This announcement adds to the ongoing recognition of dining excellence in NYC as it prepares for the award ceremony later this year.
The Michelin Guide has unveiled its latest list, featuring 14 new restaurants in New York City that are considered potential candidates for the 2025 Michelin awards. This announcement was made on July 15, contributing to a growing roster of over 350 restaurants included in the city’s guide.
These new additions to the Michelin Guide are seen as informal finalists for potential star awards, with the award ceremony scheduled for later this year. In December 2023, all eight restaurants that received their first Michelin stars were included in the guide during the same year. The newly recommended restaurants may also have the opportunity to qualify for the Bib Gourmand list, which recognizes establishments offering high-quality food at reasonable prices.
The 14 new restaurants reflect a rich tapestry of cuisines, showcasing Caribbean, Thai, Yemeni, and French dishes. All newly added establishments are located in either Brooklyn or Manhattan, enriching the city’s already diverse dining scene. This announcement follows the addition of 16 restaurants to the Michelin Guide just a few months earlier, in April.
More restaurants may continue to be added to the Michelin shortlist in the coming months as inspectors conduct their evaluations. While the exact date for the announcement of the 2025 Michelin stars has not yet been set, the previous year’s event took place on December 9.
In December 2024, the Tribeca restaurant Jungsik was recognized with a prestigious three-star status, a distinction not awarded to any new NYC restaurant since 2012. Presently, three other city establishments hold two Michelin stars: César in SoHo, Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare in Hell’s Kitchen, and Sushi Sho in Midtown.
Michelin inspectors, who visit restaurants anonymously and pay for their own meals, evaluate dining establishments based on multiple criteria, including product quality, flavor mastery, cooking technique, the chef’s personality as expressed through their cuisine, overall value, and consistency across multiple visits.
Among the notable new restaurants added to the list are:
The addition of these 14 restaurants to the Michelin Guide underscores New York City’s continuous evolution as a culinary hotspot, promising food enthusiasts an exciting array of dining options as they await the final verdict from Michelin later this year.
