The deceased were identified as NYPD Officer Didarul Islam and Wesley LePatner, an employee of Blackstone, a private equity firm. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, was heavily armed with an M4 assault rifle and was wearing body armor during the attack.
According to reports, the shooting began in the building’s lobby where Tamura fatally shot Officer Islam. He subsequently made his way to the 33rd floor, where he claimed another victim before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A security guard was also injured in the chaos.

Authorities confirmed that Tamura had traveled cross-country from Las Vegas before the attack. He possessed a concealed carry license in Nevada and drove a black BMW, which was found double-parked near the office building with additional firearms and ammunition inside.
