Marine & Lawn Hotels and Resorts has expanded its portfolio by acquiring the Greywalls Hotel near the Muirfield golf course in Scotland. This historic hotel, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, has been a retreat for royalty and golf enthusiasts since 1901. With a focus on renovations, Marine & Lawn aims to enhance the guest experience, while also expanding into the U.S. with other acquisitions. Edinburgh, Scotland – Marine & Lawn Hotels and Resorts has announced its latest expansion with the acquisition of the Greywalls Hotel located adjacent to the world-renowned Muirfield golf course in Scotland. This move increases Marine & Lawn’s property portfolio to a total of eight locations globally.
The Greywalls Hotel is nestled behind the 10th tee box of Muirfield, which is famous for being the home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. This historic hotel, designed by the esteemed architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901, has served as a retreat for both royalty and avid golf enthusiasts alike.
Famed for its stunning gardens, which were designed by Gertrude Jekyll, the Greywalls Hotel has been in private ownership since 1926 by the Weaver family. The hotel’s prime location provides direct access to Muirfield, a course that has hosted the Open Championship a remarkable sixteen times and is consistently ranked among the top ten golf courses in the world by Golf Digest.
Following the acquisition, Marine & Lawn plans to undertake comprehensive renovations at the Greywalls Hotel. These updates will focus on enhancing the hotel’s interiors, improving food and beverage offerings, and elevating the overall guest experience.
In addition to the Scottish acquisition, Marine & Lawn is also expanding into the United States with the acquisition of Mid Pines Inn and Pine Needles Lodge in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The US properties, established in the 1920s, are situated along golf courses designed by the celebrated architect Donald Ross.
Similar to the Greywalls Hotel, the Mid Pines Inn and Pine Needles Lodge are set to undergo substantial renovations. These renovations will include upgrades to guest rooms, new dining concepts, and enhancements to public spaces. Guests at these establishments will benefit from priority access and carefully curated golf packages that promise exceptional golfing experiences.
