Dr. Kumar, an East Memphis gynecologic oncologist, is facing a total of 36 federal charges, which were expanded just prior to the recent case transfer. The allegations against him include serious claims of coercing at least four women into sexual acts, conducting unnecessary medical procedures, and the improper reuse of single-use medical devices that were not properly cleaned or disinfected.
In April 2025, the state of Tennessee issued a report detailing that Dr. Kumar is prohibited from prescribing Schedule II drugs while his case is pending.
