Aquebogue, New York – Planet Nugg, owned by entrepreneur Dave Tubens, is set to open a new cannabis dispensary in Aquebogue at 720 Main Road. The new facility will span nearly 4,000 square feet and is expected to welcome customers within the next three months.
The upcoming dispensary will feature a unique vineyard-style concept, placing a strong emphasis on customer education and experience. This innovative approach is designed to cater to a diverse consumer base, from cannabis novices to seasoned users. The establishment aims to create a welcoming atmosphere with trained budtenders equipped with iPads, ensuring a shopping experience akin to a modern retail environment, similar to tech giant Apple’s stores.
In preparation for this new location, Tubens plans to hire at least 20 employees. The design will incorporate local materials such as cedar planks and stone to reflect the Aquebogue aesthetic. These elements highlight the organization’s commitment to becoming a part of the community.
Planet Nugg will offer a variety of cannabis products aimed at assisting with various issues, including anxiety, pain management, and sleep disorders. This educational focus is a core element of Tubens’ business philosophy. His first dispensary in Farmingdale has already hosted educational seminars, such as Narcan training and support for veterans, with plans to implement similar initiatives at the new facility.
The cannabis industry in New York has experienced remarkable growth, with revenues reaching $1 billion in 2024. This surge has prompted local entrepreneurs like Tubens to seize opportunities in cannabis retail. To operate legally, cannabis retailers in New York must source their products exclusively from local growers, thus supporting the state’s agricultural community.

Currently, there are two existing dispensaries in Riverhead Town, namely Beleaf and Strain Stars. There is also another proposed dispensary in the area, which is facing zoning hurdles as it seeks to open in a former auto dealership. An online petition has recently emerged, opposing the expansion of cannabis stores within Riverhead, illustrating some of the local concerns regarding cannabis retail growth.
Planet Nugg aims to integrate into the local community effectively, possibly branding the new dispensary as the North Fork Cannabis Company. Tubens emphasizes the importance of being a good neighbor and establishing a positive presence in Aquebogue. By differentiating his dispensary from traditional head shops and focusing on educational outreach, Tubens is set to redefine the local cannabis retail experience.
