Waldorf Astoria New York Reopens After Extensive Renovation

News Summary

The Waldorf Astoria New York has reopened after an eight-year renovation, reducing its guest room count while enhancing luxury and preserving historical elements. The hotel features new dining venues and expansive accommodations. Aimed at revitalizing its legacy, the hotel is set to attract elite travelers once again.

New York—The iconic Waldorf Astoria New York has officially reopened its doors on July 15, 2025, after an extensive renovation period that lasted over eight years. Originally slated to reopen in September 2025, the hotel has welcomed guests ahead of schedule, marking a significant moment in luxury hospitality.

The extensive renovation included a multibillion-dollar investment focused on both modern enhancements and the preservation of the hotel’s storied heritage. The Waldorf Astoria, known for its place in luxury hotel history, now features 375 guest rooms, a marked decrease from its previous capacity of 1,400 rooms. The upper floors of the structure have also been transformed into 372 privately owned condominiums.

Room rates at the newly renovated hotel start at $1,500 per night, or guests may utilize 150,000 Hilton Honors points for accommodations. Notably, most guest rooms offer spacious layouts, exceeding 570 square feet, providing an exceptionally comfortable experience in the heart of Manhattan.

The renovation emphasized the importance of historical and architectural preservation. A total of 62,000 square feet of landmark-designated interior space has been retained, including features like the iconic Waldorf Astoria Clock, originally gifted by Queen Victoria in 1893. The property maintains elements of its original Art Deco design while integrating modern enhancements.

In addition to luxurious accommodations, the Waldorf Astoria now boasts three distinct dining venues. Lex Yard, led by renowned chef Michael Anthony, presents an American brasserie experience; Peacock Alley has been upgraded to a full-service restaurant; and Yoshoku offers diners an exquisite selection of Japanese cuisine inspired by kaiseki traditions.

For business travelers, the hotel offers 43,000 square feet of meeting and event space, which is set to officially reopen on September 1, 2025. This ensures that the Waldorf Astoria remains a top choice for hosting significant events, conferences, and celebrations. Guests will also soon enjoy the 20,000 square foot Guerlain Wellness Spa, although its opening date has yet to be announced.

The Waldorf Astoria’s return revitalizes a historic venue renowned for hosting high-profile events and celebrities since its inception in 1931. Previously owned by Beijing-based Anbang Insurance Group before being purchased by Dajia Insurance Group, the hotel has consistently been a symbol of opulence and cultural significance, famously home to the iconic Waldorf salad.

Luigi Romaniello, the new managing director of the Waldorf Astoria, aims to elevate the luxury experience for guests after completing this extensive refurbishment. Guests will experience the hotel’s signature scent, named 301 Park Avenue, in both public areas and the new condominiums, adding an olfactory element to the luxurious atmosphere.

As the Waldorf Astoria New York begins this new chapter, its rich history, combined with modern luxury features, positions it to once again be a beacon of exceptional hospitality in Manhattan. With a commitment to excellence, the hotel is set to attract both elite travelers and locals alike while retaining its legacy as a chateau of luxury.
