New York City launched its first India Business Expo, enhancing ties with India’s travel market. The event featured 14 Indian travel professionals and over 30 NYC businesses showcasing diverse tourism options. Attendees enjoyed guided tours, Broadway performances, and valuable networking opportunities, highlighting the city’s appeal to Indian travelers. With increasing visitor numbers, this expo serves as a vital step in fostering future collaborations between NYC and India’s booming tourism sector.
New York City hosted its inaugural India Business Expo from July 10 to July 12, 2025, aimed at enhancing business development and fostering closer ties with India’s burgeoning travel market. The event attracted a total of 14 distinguished professionals from the Indian travel industry, alongside over 30 member businesses representing various tourism offerings from New York City’s five boroughs.
During the three-day expo, participants explored the city’s loved attractions, innovative tourism experiences, and the rich cultural diversity that New York City has to offer. The event featured a blend of activities, including private meetings with local tourism businesses, a captivating Broadway performance, and an engaging Five Borough Marketplace buyers’ meet, which facilitated direct connections between Western and Indian stakeholders in the tourism sector.
In addition to business discussions, the expo provided attendees the opportunity to partake in guided tours of top cultural and lifestyle attractions. Noteworthy among these was a private screening of “Encounters in the Milky Way” at the American Museum of Natural History, which allowed participants to experience the city’s impressive cultural offerings firsthand. Furthermore, a special Broadway Night featured behind-the-scenes access to cast members from popular shows like “Aladdin” and “The Lion King.” For wildlife enthusiasts, a “Wild Encounter” at the Bronx Zoo included close-up interactions with exotic animals such as a sloth and an armadillo.
The expo’s significance is underscored by the growing importance of India as a key market for New York City tourism. In 2024, NYC welcomed a total of 64.5 million tourists, a remarkable figure that approached pre-pandemic levels, demonstrating the city’s recovery in the travel sector. Notably, the number of Indian visitors surged to 419,000, marking a substantial 24.7% increase from the previous year. This is indicative of the successful rebound of travel from India, as it surpasses pre-pandemic visitor figures.
Major attractions participating in the expo included world-renowned sites like the Empire State Building Observatory, Hudson Yards, M Social Hotel Times Square, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Together, these businesses showcased the diverse tourism options available in New York City, reinforcing its status as a premier destination for travelers from India.
Looking ahead, the success of the India Business Expo suggests strong growth opportunities for future collaboration between New York City and India. As the world’s busiest airport system, New York City continues to be the favored entry point for international visitors, and it is strategically positioned to capitalize on the increasing number of tourists arriving from India.
Overall, the inaugural India Business Expo is anticipated to be a crucial step in strengthening NYC’s trade relations with Indian travel markets. By enhancing business partnerships, the event aims at further showcasing the rich tourism potential of New York City, ensuring that it remains a leading global destination for Indian travelers.
