New York – A major multi-state drug trafficking network has been dismantled following an extensive 18-month investigation, leading to significant drug seizures and numerous arrests, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This operation, which represents one of the largest drug trafficking conspiracies ever charged in the northern district of New York, has revealed a substantial distribution scheme that funneled drugs throughout New York State.
Authorities began their investigation in December 2023, when the New York State Police searched a suspected stash house in Niskayuna. Initially, officers discovered drug paraphernalia and a small amount of cocaine, which prompted further inquiries into the suspect’s operations. As the investigation progressed, law enforcement uncovered a staggering amount of drugs collectively weighing several hundred pounds, including:
A critical breakthrough occurred on June 12, when law enforcement executed searches in both New York and New Jersey. This operation yielded more than 550 pounds of cocaine and 10,000 fentanyl pills, indicating the high level of activity and trafficking within this network.
The total seizure from the investigation amounted to:
U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III noted that the street value of the seized cocaine alone exceeds $15 million. The investigation revealed that the drugs originated from California and were transported across the United States in tractor-trailers, hidden within household appliances like freezers before being distributed from stash houses located in New York City and Long Island.
Investigators characterized the operation’s co-conspirators as “highly sophisticated.” They allegedly employed fraudulent documents from shell companies to disguise their criminal activities as legitimate businesses. Moreover, these suspects were said to have laundered money through a fraudulent car dealership in New Jersey, alongside a purported organic dieting business and a company for exotic snake care.
Throughout the lengthy investigation, which involved coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, 13 individuals were arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances. Among those arrested were four individuals from the Capital Region, as well as suspects hailing from Pennsylvania and Georgia. Most individuals charged face severe consequences, with potential sentences ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life in prison upon conviction.
This massive takedown is regarded as the largest operation related to drug trafficking in approximately 30 years within the region. Sarcone criticized local leaders in New York for allowing such extensive criminal operations to thrive within the state, underlining the scale and impact of this network.
The collaboration among different law enforcement units, including various police departments and sheriff’s offices in the area, played a vital role in executing this operation. This significant success highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the detrimental effects of substance abuse.
