The St. Regis New York celebrates its 120th anniversary with an extensive renovation, blending modern luxury while preserving its historical elegance. Upgrades include deluxe rooms, refreshed dining experiences, and enhanced event spaces aimed at elevating guest experiences. The hotel’s commitment to both history and modern amenities ensures it remains a premier destination for travelers seeking timeless luxury in the heart of New York City.
New York City — The St. Regis New York is marking its 120th anniversary with an extensive renovation and luxurious upgrades to enhance guest experiences. The historic hotel, which first opened its doors in 1904, underwent a multi-phase renovation that spanned three years and was completed in 2025. This effort sought to modernize its offerings while retaining the timeless elegance that defined its origins.
Founded by the wealthy American businessman John Jacob Astor IV, the St. Regis has long been a beacon of luxury in New York. Astor, known as the richest passenger aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic, ensured that the hotel was imbued with advanced technology and opulent designs from the very start. Today, it features telephones in every guest room, a signature element found across all 40 St. Regis properties worldwide.
The renovation introduces deluxe rooms equipped with butler service, complimentary pressing of two garments per stay, and an honor bar, enhancing the personalized luxury experience. These deluxe rooms, measuring 41 square meters, feature high ceilings, a comfortable living area, and an option for inter-connected access. King-size beds are standard, but guests can also request two double beds. Bathrooms are adorned with marble and come with whirlpool tubs and Dyson hair dryers.
Dining is a highlight at the St. Regis, particularly at La Maisonette, which serves breakfast in a vibrant setting reminiscent of outdoor pavilions. This restaurant retains the charm of the original breakfast room from the early 1900s. The renowned King Cole Bar also underwent a refresh during the renovation, maintaining its historical significance as a favored venue for iconic cocktails and films, particularly its signature Bloody Mary.
The Drawing Room, formerly known as Astor Court, has been remodeled, showcasing plush velvet couches and sleek seating options. Guests can enjoy various culinary experiences throughout the hotel, elevating the overall luxury atmosphere.
With 16 dedicated event spaces, the hotel caters to a wide array of functions, including weddings and corporate meetings. Notable spaces include The Library, Fontainebleau, and the Mezzanine Conference Room. Virtual tours of these spaces are offered online, allowing potential clients to explore options from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, a dedicated on-site planner and Maître D’ assist guests with the intricate details of event planning and catering.
The St. Regis also prioritizes wellness with a state-of-the-art Athletic Club open 24 hours a day, equipped with Technogym ARTIS equipment. Guests can also access on-demand private training sessions, catering to their individual fitness needs. Unique experiences like a sabrage masterclass, including a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne and canapés for four, are also available but require reservations two weeks in advance.
The renovation was meticulously designed by Champalimaud Design, striking a delicate balance between the classic Beaux-Arts architecture and contemporary furnishings. The lobby’s original chandelier and reception areas have been restored to their former glory, uncovering hidden features such as original exterior-facing windows and a Tiffany window design.
Overall, the hotel’s extensive renovations not only enhance its luxury offerings but also pay homage to its rich history. Redesigned public spaces now display the original private collection of books from the Astor Family Library, further intertwining the hotel’s legacy with its present. As the St. Regis New York steps into its 121st year, it promises to remain a premier destination for luxury travelers, seamlessly blending the classic and modern.
