New York City has welcomed the opening of No. 79 Bar & Terrace, a new cocktail bar located in the vibrant Lower East Side. This establishment is the latest venture of hospitality veteran Nur Khan, who is known for successfully managing several notable venues in New York City.
No. 79 Bar & Terrace promises a unique cocktail experience led by mixologist Charlotte Voisey, the executive director at the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation. The cocktail menu is designed to offer a ‘creative downtown edge,’ with a focus on reinventing classic cocktails into innovative, refreshing drinks, ideal for both afternoon and evening enjoyment.
In addition to an enticing drinks program, the menu features a variety of bar snacks crafted by executive chef Chris Skoda, who previously worked at Sartiano’s. Guests can look forward to enjoying elevated chicken nuggets, beef hot dogs with various toppings, and skewered snacks that complement the cocktails perfectly.
The launch menu for No. 79 emphasizes spring and summer flavors, showcasing cocktails that are not only delicious but also food-friendly. Some standout items include the Dry Martini, which offers a choice between vodka or gin paired with rosé vermouth, served with an olive or twist; the LES Spritz, made with Hendrick’s Gin, fresh lemon, apple, mint, and topped with Prosecco; and the refreshing Banana Daiquiri, incorporating rum, banana liqueur, fresh lime juice, and Angostura bitters. Additionally, Khan’s signature cocktail, Smoke Show, will also be featured on the menu.
The venue itself has a horseshoe-shaped wrap-around bar capable of accommodating 23 guests, along with seating available for 50 guests in comfortable banquettes. The interior design, created by Craig Shillitto of Cycle Project, includes custom hangar-style garage doors that facilitate an indoor-outdoor experience, enhancing the ambiance of the bar. The decor is further enriched by black-and-white photography from artist Sante D’Orazio.
Music plays a significant role at No. 79 Bar & Terrace, with Khan curating a playlist that highlights a mix of classic and contemporary artists, particularly those associated with the Lower East Side and New York City’s rich musical heritage.
No. 79 is part of a wave of new cocktail bars opening across the United States, joining establishments like Bar Benjamin in Hollywood and Doberman Drawing Room in Las Vegas. With its inventive cocktails, thoughtfully crafted snack menu, and engaging atmosphere, No. 79 Bar & Terrace looks set to become a noteworthy addition to the Lower East Side’s nightlife scene.
As New York City continues to recover and reinvent its dining and nightlife landscape, establishments like No. 79 Bar & Terrace reflect a commitment to delivering elevated experiences while embracing the eclectic spirit of the neighborhood.
