This announcement was made in a news release on April 11, signaling an exciting new chapter for both Diaz and Gilbane in one of the most vibrant construction markets in the country.
With more than 18 years in the construction industry, Raquel is no stranger to the ups and downs of this dynamic field. Before joining Gilbane, she honed her skills at AECOM Tishman and Turner Construction, where she left her mark on numerous large-scale projects. It’s no surprise that she has been involved in delivering over $2.8 billion in projects right here in NYC!
Now, as the new leader for Gilbane’s NYC operations, Raquel will be steering the company’s strategy and driving growth initiatives. Her to-do list is quite the roster, including expanding Gilbane’s market portfolio and stumbling upon new service offerings. Aiming for excellence, she will focus on team development and delivering world-class facilities that truly cater to both clients and local communities. Sounds challenging, but she’s definitely up for it!
Raquel’s journey began when she moved to New York City at the young age of 18. Ever since, she has embraced the city as her own and poured her energy into its construction landscape. Prior to her promotion, she served as a vice president at Gilbane where she made significant strides, notably expanding Gilbane’s public sector portfolio since she joined in 2019.
Her impressive résumé includes roles as MEP project manager, MEP superintendent, and project executive on major projects that have garnered attention, such as the COVID-19 Centers of Excellence, the Orchard Beach pavilion restoration, and several renovations of the historic Carnegie libraries.
Diaz’s public sector experience is extensive, including collaborations with the NYC Department of Design and Construction, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and the NYC Economic Development Corporation. All in all, Gilbane stands on the brink of an exciting future with a diverse pipeline of projects ranging from affordable housing developments to vital healthcare facilities.
Ryan Hutchins, regional president of Gilbane, has already praised Raquel’s ability to earn the trust of both public and private sector partners. Notably, she approaches project delivery with innovative strategies, such as the “design-build” method, which enhances collaboration and efficiency.
Beyond her remarkable professional accomplishments, Raquel is truly committed to mentoring the next generation in the construction industry. She actively participates in Gilbane’s Rising Contractor Program and serves on the economic inclusion task force, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity within the industry.
